// 2 countries. 14 resorts. 650 kilometers. One wall.

Anyone who's been to Morzine will no doubt sing its praises as a top tier skiing destination. Those who haven't may be surprised by the relatively modest height of the resort, but may be equally unaware of the close proximity of Mont Blanc and further high peaks, which conspire to create a micro climate of sorts. There's always more snow here than of parts of the Alps at the same altitude, and since the valleys are narrow and generally not south-facing, it hangs around a lot longer.

The result is a great deal of skiing to be had on the largest linked ski area in the world. If that claim seems familiar, consider the two countries, 14 resorts, 209 lifts, 288 marked slopes, and over 650 kilometres of piste that make up the vast Portes du Soleil. And from the snow-cannoned nursery slopes on Plenney to the tree lined runs above Ardent to the Chamoissiere off-piste, there's enough variety for every type of skier.

Randonee and ski du font fans are well catered for by a host of cross-country trails and off-piste runs, so you might want to hire a pair from our rental partner All Mountain Rental. Or for those who prefer to bring their own kit, don't forget you can store it free of charge with Slow Chalets throughout the off-season.
