// A not so sleepy mountain village.
A quilting and patchwork festival one week, an Argentinean tango one the next. Those who don't know
Morzine might be surprised to find this sleepy mountain village hosting such a rich and varied cultural
calendar. Whenever you choose to visit, it's more than likely that there will be experiences
you'll be able take home to live long in the memory.
Here's just a selection of the highlights - get in touch and we'll be able to fill
you in on exactly what's happening when you plan to visit.
Le Tour - June/July
Morzine regularly hosts stage finishes of the tour, thanks in no small part to the notoriously
tricky Col de Joux Plane climb. The Tour is an occasion not to be missed with its circus of teams,
sponsors and media bringing a real buzz to the town. The legendary Criterium du Dauphine is
another grueling pro race to look out for, with Morzine having been chosen as a stage no fewer
than six times.
The MTB Pass Portes du Soleil - June/July
With refreshment points stocked with pasture cheeses and Savoy wines, this 75km route between France
and Switzerland offers just as much for the spectators as it does the participants.
Gourmet week - July
This food festival aims to share the local gastronomic heritage. Tuck into cookery classes,
local produce tastings, educational workshops and even a herboristery conference.
Art Fair - August
Around 30 artists from both the region and all over France exhibit. With painting, sculpture,
pottery, ironwork, jewelry, wood craft, leather, fabric, glassware and fashion all catered
for, it's safe to say all tastes are covered.
The Mont Blanc Rally - September
You don't have to be a car fan to be impressed by the site of dozens of cars streaming up the
Rue du Bourg in the town's centre. Pro and amateur competitors turn out for what is a feature
in the French rally championships.
Migratory bird watching - August-October
The top of the Illiez Valley represents one of the most important passages for migratory
birds in the Alps. Little wonder that the Centre Sempach have installed an impressive bird
sanctuary here, just up from the Col de Cou. Make your way up to watch this spectacle as
thousands of these birds head south for a winter in the Med.
Championship skiing and snowboarding - throughout the winter
Whether it's the punishing European Mountaineering Championships, the impressive Snowboarding
Work Cup or even World Cup skiing which Morzine hosted back in 1974, the region continues to
attract top international competition. An opportunity to watch such a spectacle shouldn't be missed.
Husky racing - January
The 25 best 'mushers' in the world battle it out over a 500km non-sop race with over 20,000m
of ascent. Last time out, the race visited the region three times - the start in Avoriaz,
crossing the Col de Cou and descending down the Vallee de la Manche.
